Winter Skincare Routine | Collab With Madeleine

Welcome back to my blog everyone. Today back with a Winter Skincare routine! As much as I love makeup, a good skincare routine is essential for a blank canvas and I achieve this by using unfragranced and mostly natural products on my face, as my skin is can be quite sensitive. My skin gets flaky  in winter, but it's usually normal to oily. Though I don't suffer from acne, I do get the occasional hormonal breakout, but I've fallen into the routine of creating a good skincare routine for myself to keep spots at bay.

The first thing I do to achieve this is remove my eye makeup. I cannot stress how important this step is. I like to use the Rituals Mild Eye Makeup Remover on a cotton round and gently wiping my eyes with it until the makeup is off. Then I proceed to wipe the rest of my makeup off with makeup wipes from

After my makeup has been removed, I go into cleansing my skin. First I take my NIMUE Skin Technology Face Wash and apply it on the tips of my fingers before massaging it into my face. I rinse with lukewarm water to keep my pores open.

After that step has been completed, I apply a face mask. Keep in mind that I only do this once a week, a daily face mask is not recommended. The face mask I am using today is the 7th Heaven Creamy Coconut Face Mask for Dry and Tired Skin, as my skin has been super dry and dehydrated due to the winter.

When I don't apply a face mask, I just skip the above mentioned step and rinse my face with cold water instead of lukewarm. Thereafter, I use a toner from The Body Shop. This one is great as it is a Tea Tree toner and tea tree is an antioxidant which aids in removing impurities. It's perfect if you have a couple of blemishes like I do.

After I have finished toning (or applying a mask to) my face, I hydrate my skin once more by applying a creamy face lotion. The one I am currently using is by Figs & Rouge and it is their Derma Renewal Hydra Riche Night Cream. I got this in my StyleTone beauty subscription box - if you'd like to see which other products I got, click here

StyleTone Unboxing | First Impressions + Review

I recently came across StyleTone through a Facebook ad. Admittedly, I tend to scroll past those, but I have been looking for European beauty subscription boxes for the longest time. I know in the United States (US), Birchbox, Glossybox etc are quite popular, but since I don't live in the US, it was difficult to get ahold of a subscription box without it costing me a limb. Luckily, I stumbled across StyleTone and let me tell you, I was super pleased with the contents of this gorgeous beauty box.

I am, however, jumping the gun here. Let's take it back a notch. Firstly, if you don't know what a beauty subscription box is, it's where you sign up online to receive a box of goodies delivered to your home. Of course you pay a fee and how much you pay varies. I was unfamiliar with StyleTone so I only paid 12,50 euros for the month of January - pretty inexpensive considering that this box contains five full-sized beauty products!

StyleTone's subscription box has a new theme every month, so you'll always have something different to look forward to.

This month's theme was Goal Digger, encouraging subscribers to make the most of the new year. The products that are in January's box has a total value of €121 and as mentioned before, all products are full sized and cruelty-free! Here's what I received:

Seraphine Botanicals - Guava Butter
(Valued at €21)
This Guava Butter Lip & Cheek stain is gorgeous for the upcoming Spring! It's small and compact which makes it perfect for on the go and traveling. I also love that it smells amazing and the pigmentation is enough for a little flush of colour, though the pigmentation is buildable too. It is long-lasting and creamy when applied and it blends easily!

Figs & Rouge Flawless Effects Activ Lumioux AM - PM Serum
(Valued at €38)

I think this face cream may be my favourite product of the lot. I love it when makeup subscription boxes include skincare items! This product smells absolutely delicious and oh-so-natural! On the back of the product it states that the face cream is "enriched with Hyaluronic Acid to optimise skins vital moisture and tone. Enhanced with clinically proven anti-inflammatory & soothing phytessence Blue Daisy extract." It's a night cream which has settled itself quite nicely into my skincare routine after I wipe off my makeup, wash my face, cleanse, use blemish cream and then apply a night cream or a face oil!

Evelyn Iona Lipgloss in 'Lise'
(Valued at €20)
I was skeptical about this lipgloss because when I saw it, I thought it'd be way too pink for my skin-tone, but I love it now! It's buttery, a little bit glittery and has a high-shine effect. What I love about this lipgloss is that it is enriched with coconut oil, so it hydrates your lips whilst keeping them looking plump and fabulous!

Emite Makeup Long Lash Mascara
(Valued at €22 )

I had never heard this mascara brand before this product. I don't hate it, but I don't like it either. It reminds me of the Alverde Natural Mascara; it lengthens and adds a bit of volume but it's not necessarily an item I'd pack when traveling nor would it be a go-to. What I do love is that it is very pigmented, one of the blackest blacks I've come across, and the mascara doesn't create clumpy lashes.

BellaPierre Fan Brush NO 27
(Valued at €20)
I was way too excited when I saw that a fan brush was included in this month's subscription box. I am trying to build up my brush collection but as we all know, good quality brushes usually cost a lot - but they don't have to! This BellaPierre fan brush is super soft, doesn't shed any bristles and is made with synthetic fibres. It's my favourite highlighter brush at the moment!

Overall, I was impressed with the contents of the box. Personally I would have loved a product from a brand I was familiar with, something one should consider is that cruelty-free brands aren't that popular, so this is a great way to discover more cruelty-free and vegan brands. Have you ever tried a subscription box? What did you think of the StyleTone review + first impressions? Let me know if you know of any European subscription boxes!

Agenderflux | Introducing Luke Ruiters

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've had a guest post, but today I'm back with a bang and featuring 22 year old fashion intern, Luke. Luke, who describes themself as a "vibrant 22 year old with big hair and big dreams", recently designed a graduate collection for the Design Academy of Fashion (DAF) in South Africa.

Something that stood out to me was the name of Luke's collection, Agenderflux, which defies all boundaries of what men and women should be wearing and encourages people to wear what they feel comfortable in. Naturally, I thought this was a great idea as people should be comfortable and confident when wearing what they want. To cut to the chase, I had a little chat with Luke all about falling in love with fashion, inspirations and what Agenderflux really means:

"When I was about 6 or 7 years old I was obsessed with my mother’s style and her wardrobe and I was so confused as to why I don’t own a dress? I made sure I had barbies and I would create little outfits for them with old t-shirts that I’d cut up , I would tie them around my barbies."

"My love for fashion started there and I was obsessed ever since.  My style is bold but clean at the same time, I’m experimental and very comfortable with my clothing choices. I studied fashion design with the intention to actually start a career in fashion styling as that's  more my gig and where I see myself going in the future."

"The title of my range is Agenderflux meaning 'when you identify as agender but have fluctuations where you feel masculine and feminine but not male or female', the title and meaning behind my range resonates well with my gender fluid concept for my graduate collection."

"Gender and sexuality has always been a topic of conversation/debate surrounding my personal life since a young age and during my design process I felt moved and empowered to be an advocate for the gender fluid movement, my collection is not only about the beautiful pieces in the range but the strong message that I am conveying through the clothes. When it came to having my clothes displayed into the fashion show, I was nervous about it, but also not at the same time. I was so excited to showcase what I’ve been working on for the past few months and it felt so good hearing all the great feedback and love I got after presenting my graduate collection , after months of freakouts, sleepless nights and just craziness. So the end result was good and I was extremely thrilled and happy. If I could give any advice to aspiring designers it would be to believe in yourself and others will too. It probably sounds hella corny, but I live by this."

What did you think of this post? Leave some love in the comments. I personally loved the message behind the designs! Here's to defying boundaries of what people say you should be, and just being who you are.

Winter Beauty Favourites ! Collab with NellaCoco

Hello everyone! It's been some time since I've blogged a post, but today I'm back with a Winter post where I'll be sharing my absolute favourite cruelty-free winter makeup must-haves and skincare products!

The first product I'm sharing is one that has been hyped about for ages now. It is the beloved Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. (Wow. What a mouthful) I absolutely adore this palette and I hope that ABH releases more eyeshadow palettes in the future. The actual packaging is bubblegum pink with a velvet finish, featuring 14 gorgeous, buttery shadows and a duo brush applicator for precise application and a well-blended shadow. It's versatile as it comes with a variety of neutral shadows to deep berry tones. Hands down my favourite eyeshadow palette!

My second must-have is another beauty favourite, it is the NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray. I used to think that setting spray is essentially just a fancy water that makes your makeup last - I wasn't wrong, but I definitely have no regrets about purchasing this one from NYX. It's affordable (60ml for 8.35 euro), comes in sleek black packaging with a lightweight bottle. The actual product allows for a radiant glow after application. Highly recommend as setting sprays aren't something I would personally splurge on. You can apply this before and after your makeup to make it last longer. It's not just a winter favourite, but a ride-or-die makeup product that's definitely worth trying out. It seems expensive at 54,95 euros but I can reassure you it's worth every penny.

These Pomegranate and Fig + Berry candles may look like your average Joe's, but the soy wax candle double up as a moisturizer! Not only do they smell amazing and are they cruelty-free, but also super hydrating and perfect for the cold winter months. I purchased both of mine in South Africa from Cotton On Body for only R50 each!

Next up is an eye makeup remover. I was gifted this as a Christmas present and I love how well this product works. It is the RITUALS Mild Eye Makeup Remover. The one I own is 10 euro for 30ml and it takes off every bit of eyeshadow, mascara and eyeliner that I might be wearing that day. It's great before or after you wash your face as it'll cleanse the eye area regardless. My favourite is how cute the packaging is and it's travel sized too!

The last item I've recently been loving the Treacle Moon UK body washes. They are bath and shower gels and my personal favourite is in the scent Warm Cinnamon Nights. It is such a lovely blend of mild cinnamon spices with a hint of sweetness. Each bottle's colour represents the scent and what I love about this is that they all have an adorable description to go with the scent!

What did you think of these products? Do you own any of them, or do you have any of your them on your wishlist? Let me know!

This post is a guest post/collab with NellaCoco. Be sure to check out her drop dead gorgeous Winter evening OOTD on her blog!

Stranger Things | Plot & Thoughts

Rated a 9/10 on IMDB, Stranger Things is a Netflix original drama series, though other genres it's classified as include Supernatural Fiction, Horror Fiction and Mystery. The show is set in a (fictional) town called Hawkins, Indiana in the year 1983. The first season revolves around a young boy, Will Byers, who goes missing.

After his sudden disappearance, three separate investigations take place. The first is his mother Joyce (played by the iconic Winona Ryder) who launches an investigation to find him. She ends up discovering a whole lot more than she bargained for when she teams up with local town sheriff, Jim Hopper, as they start uncovering secrets and finding out truths previously told by a top-secret government, who are performing experiments involving supernatural forces. I'm telling you, what they discover has got me SHOOK.

Meanwhile, Will's best friends (Dustin, Lucas and Mike) are launching their own investigation. Being the last ones to see Mike after a game of Dungeons and Dragons, the boys go on a hunt to discover what really happened to their friend. This is when they meet a young girl, named Eleven,  in the woods. Eleven (or El, as the boys start calling her once they become friends) is incredibly strange and hella powerful, which is pretty cool once you ignore all the nosebleeds.

Eleven rescues her friends by tossing a van aside...with her mind.

It is revealed that she is one of the successful experiments that the top-secret government created. The more time the boys spend with her, the more they realize she's not only a clue to finding Will, but also a deadly weapon against the government that created her.

Nancy and Jonathan

The third and last investigation is conducted by two unlikely allies; the picture-perfect and popular Nancy (Mike's older sister) and Jonathan (Will's older brother), who enjoys photography a little too much. The two pair up after they discover they have a common goal, which results in them eventually becoming friends.

Together, Joyce, Sheriff Hopper, Dustin, Lucas, Mike, Eleven, Nancy and Jonathan are all finding separate pieces of the puzzle that will help to locate Will. The different groups discover important information and it's only when they all start working together that they realize there's much more to what they could ever had imagined.

Stranger Things has become one of my favourite series. There's the 80s nostalgia, the slightly awkward fashion, an incredible soundtrack and spectacular performances. The kids are all great actors /actresses, despite their age. (Most of them are only twelve.) Even though there's the seriousness of fighting monsters, discovering secrets and other supernatural adventures, there's still a bit of a coming-of-age story as the boys maintain their friendship and as one of the boys develop romantic feelings for El. The overall show is excellent and fun, with a hint of danger which you have to be alert for, as clues are scattered in various episodes, creating an interaction between the audience and the characters in the show.

Stranger Things is available for streaming on Netflix, WatchSeries and Putlocker.
Shoutout to my boyfriend Zikri for giving me this blog post idea!

New Year, Better You | An Open Letter

I'm writing this on the 1 January, 2017 at 20:41pm. I've spent the past couple of minutes scrolling through Facebook and Instagram where some of my acquaintances, friends and family are wishing each other 'Happy New Year' while simultaneously complaining how much 2016 sucked for the millionth time. You're right, 2016 sucked for loads of us, myself included. Trust me, I totally feel you if you think 2016 was a messed up year, in fact, it was so bad there was a meme where someone wrote '2016 needs to be put in a bowl of rice'. So yes, it was shit - but there were also good things that happened, and remember that as you head into the New Year.

It's 2017, and I'm going to sound harsh when I say this, but I think many people wait far too long in order to do or achieve something. We do this by coming up with excuses - wait for Fridays to have a good time, for Summer to begin exercising, New Year to do all the things we've wanted to do for a while - and for what? I suppose it's easier to procrastinate and say "I'll do it soon." because many people lack motivation. This isn't because we don't have goals, or a desire to achieve them, but because sometimes we just don't know where to start or even how to start, which is perfectly okay. What isn't okay, is sitting back and complaining about how "my life is so boring" or "I'm so unfit", especially if you have the power to change whatever "problem" you may have. What's even worse is if you proceed to hate or become jealous of someone else for reaching a goal you want to accomplish. You CAN be that person too.

New Year is full of possibilities. Whatever you want to do, you can, no matter how cliché that might sound. Write your goals out, plan them into existence and work at them quietly until you achieve them. If you want to become fitter, sign up for a gym contract and try your best to stick to it. If you can't go to a gym for whatever reason, you can download 30 Day Challenges on your phone for free, run for 20 minutes a day or search Youtube for quick fitness videos. Same goes for eating healthier or even saving money. You'll save a lot more if you buy what you need and then some, instead of splurging on things you might not really have the money for. So, declutter. Keep what you need and get rid of the rest. This can be a negative person, people who you don't really want to follow on social media but feel obliged to, an article of clothing, whatever. Create a mental and physical environment that will allow room for growth. A place to nourish your talents, to improve on your weaknesses and to polish your strengths.

This year, I encourage you practice being your true, authentic self. Every year you might be one of those people that say "this year is my year", but how often has that been the case? Be selfish - do what you want to do, say no to things that make you unhappy, raise your voice in situations which you think are unfair. I say New Year, Better You because sometimes people think that New Year, New Me equals changing every facet of yourself; attitude, clothes, physical appearance. Whilst that can apply, you don't need to completely be a new person, in my opinion. You're great just the way you are, but stepping out of your comfort zone a little bit, going outside more and taking the time to do things you want to do, will greatly improve your wellbeing. Go ahead. Actually make this your year. Become the person you've always wanted to be. It's all up to you. You are your only obstacle.
